Obituary

Hastert, Robert "Joe" MADISON-Robert "Joe" Hastert, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 13, 2015. He was born on Dec. 7, 1932, the son of Robert W. and Helen (McCarville) Hastert. Joe graduated from Darlington High School in 1951. He married Mary Jo Procter on April 21, 1956. Joe proudly served in the U.S. Navy until 1959. He worked for Wisconsin Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1987. Following his retirement he worked for the UW Hospital assisting with setting up the phone system. Joe was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers, an avid Green Bay Packers and UW Badgers fan. He enjoyed woodworking, spending time and working in his yard, and traveling with Mary Jo and close friends Jeanne and Bud McGowan and Sandy and Bill McGowan. Joe is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Jo; daughter, Kay (Joe) Taylor and their children, Katie and Kara; daughter, Julie (Martin) Stoddard and their children, Graham, Evan and Brenna; sister, Mary (DeWayne) Conley; two brothers-in-law, Billy Curry and Richard Procter; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rosalie Curry and brother, James Hastert. A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, May 16, 2015. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. A private family burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare, Immaculate Heart of Mary Capital Fund or the Dane County Humane Society. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
