Johanna Schmelzer

MADISON – Johanna Lucille Schmelzer, age 78, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2015. She was born on Dec. 25, 1936, in Madison, the daughter of Theodore and Bernadette (Manning) Feisst. Johanna worked for the state at Central Colony and Mendota Mental Health for most of her life. She had a gift of working with children with special needs. Johanna is survived by her brother, Gerald (Pauline) Feisst; daughter, Stephanie (Daryl) Spraetz; son, Sean (Cheryl) Schmelzer; grandchildren, Kyle (Stephanie) Schmelzer, Katie Schmelzer, William Spraetz, Stephan Spraetz (Tracy), Dr. Jason (Amie) Kurian and Dr. Joe (Emily) Kurian; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane James Schmelzer; two sisters, Peggy (Charles) Reible and Joan (Earl) Krueger. A memorial gathering will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., on Tuesday, May 26, 2015.
