MADISON-Steven J. Coffey, age 65, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Meriter Hospital. He was born on May 1, 1950, the son of Jerome and Carol (Mabis) Coffey. He married Bettie Everson on Feb. 14, 2001, in Xxtapa, Mexico, which was a double wedding along with Bettie's twin sister, Bonnie. Steve grew up in Cottage Grove and graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1968. He was a cement finisher/foreman all of his life starting at the age of 12 with his father. At the age of 62 he began driving cars for CAT Wholesale delivering them throughout southern Wisconsin. Steve enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow drivers. Steve is survived by his wife, Bettie; daughter, Stephanie; two sons, Steve Jr. and Jon, along with their families; step-daughters, Jennifer, Jodie (Jeff) and Jamie (Kenny) and their families; sisters, Gwen (Richard) Cox and Diane (Rusty) Simonis; brothers, David (Diane), Leonard (Brenda), Terry (Tonya Wipperfurth) and Laverne Coffey; brothers-in-law, Larry (Teri) Moe and Gary (Bonnie) Moe; sisters-in-law, Bonnie McKenna and Nora Moe; and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and other relatives. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Friday, May 15, 2015. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, May 14, 2015, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., and also from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. The family would like to thank the staff of Meriter ER for their efforts and support.
