Obituary

Harter, Nancy N. MADISON-Nancy N. Harter, age 75, died on Monday, April 27, 2015, at Oak Park Place in Madison, where she was a resident in the Memory Care Unit. She was born on Aug. 28, 1939, the daughter of Natalie N. and Willard G. Ragnar in Rockford, Ill., where she was raised and graduated from Rockford West High School. Nancy married Gerald R. "Gary" Harter on Feb. 20, 1961, in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he was stationed as an Airman 2nd Class. During the next four years she gave birth to three sons, John Michael "Mike" Harter, Todd Harter and Douglas K. Harter. She and her sons accompanied her husband to Germany in 1965 for three years and then resided at the Truax Field Capehart housing in Sun Prairie while her husband, then Captain, was stationed at DaNang Air Base in Vietnam. Nancy raised her children. When she felt the boys were old enough, she went to work for Biological Specialties in Middleton and then to Ohmeda (now G.E. Health). She retired as the manager of Sales Support, got bored at home and went to work for OmniPress. Along the way she attended Edgewood College majoring in business administration. Nancy made a list of cities throughout the United States and Europe she wanted to see and managed to visit each of them. Nancy is survived by her husband; sons, Mike and Doug (Marjorie); daughter-in-law, Liese Harter; granddaughters, Allison and Delaney; and grandsons, Kevin and Drew. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Todd; and brother, Richard Ragnar. A Celebration of Life will be held at Olbrich Gardens at a later date to be announced. Just have to share photos from our fun trip to visit our walking buddy Carol in 2013. The three of us enjoyed our early morning walks, traded stories and laughed a lot. :)

Nancy and I spent a few days in New York City back in the mid-90's. Being the walker that she is, Nancy and I walked the entire length and width of Manhattan- don't think we took a taxi once. I worked with her for 15 years and she was quite a lady. Will remember her with fond thoughts and memories. My sympathies to her family.

I have such fond memories of Nancy. She and I worked together at Omnipress and have shared endless conversations. Her passion to catch "typos" in magazines and printed literature always brought a smile to my face. I remember one day she came into work and she had noticed there was a misspelled word on a billboard near our office. She was determined to call that marketing company and let them know, and she did! She spoke much about her boys and her grandkids whom she just adored. I will miss you Nancy, you were one of a kind! Gary, my thoughts and prayers are with you, the boys and the grandchildren. May the memories become treasures.
