Gardner, Helen E.
MADISON – Helen E. Gardner, age 94, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2015. She was born on Nov. 25, 1920, in the Town of Berry, Wis., the daughter of Erwin and Edna (Ferge) Stapelmann. Helen was a practical nurse for more than 20 years for the Central Wisconsin Center. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Madison. Helen is survived by her daughters, Virginia (Bruce) Henry of Cross Plains and Jean (Jerry) DeKarske of Raleigh, NC., nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two step-children, Tom (Johanne) Gardner of Buffalo, NY., and Larry Gardner of Madison; brother, Heinie (Jean) Stapelmann of Eau Claire; and sister, Zona Roewer of Prairie du Sac. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Robert Olson; second husband, Leo Gardner; sister, Luella; brother, Stanley and step-son, Dick Gardner. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2015. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Virginia and Bruce, Jean and Jerry, we saw Helen's obituary in the paper and want to extend our condolences to you and your families. Helen was our good neighbor for 17 years on Ruth Street. I wanted to extend my condolences to Helen's family. I worked at Central Wisconsin Center with Helen for many years. She was such a wonderful kind and gentle nurse. She was my instructor when I first started there and I so remember her and how much she taught me what she did for CWC. If it would not have been for Helen I probably would not have stayed at CWC for the 39 yrs that I did. She was such a support to everyone. She was missed when she retired. Blessing to you all.
