I only knew Roy from our daily morning meetings at the corner of Nichols over the last several years. In addition to our brief conversations about the weather, or the Packers, I was a witness to his kind nature, his respect for his duty, and his firm protectiveness. Roy will be greatly missed and will forever be remembered as an integral part of the important tradition of walking our children to and from school.

My Dad was an amazing man of strength!! He fought like no other to the battle of cancer for over 20+ years, we always joked that he would die of something else as he seemed to have a life of 9 lives and he did. As a child, I remember shouting out to him in the early mornings just before he left for work at Oscar Mayer "I love you Daddy, have a good day!" Then when he got home we would play hide and seek up until I was at least 15 years old! Oscar Mayers was a huge part of his life so several times visiting during take your daughter to work day and watch him play cards in the cafeteria between running coffee carts up and down the elevator. Oscar Mayer also would have Fosdals bring Christmas cookies which became a tradition when we moved back to town to enjoy donuts from the shop. Donuts every Saturday morning started as early as I can remember whether it was at the old Donutland and then that was gone Triggs Bakery and will be a time that I will cherish forever! Oh wait don't forgot donuts after playing Bingo at the hall.....yes that is right Bingo was Friday night. We didn't have a sweet tooth or anything! How about that time when I was learning to drive!!! Now as we all know I came later in life where patience was tested and this even more so with driving! Dad told Mom that he would teach me how to drive a manual....we got around the block after I killed the toyota truck 6 times and he said, "That's it walk home!" I'm not really sure if a new transmission was put in that truck but that was the end of teaching me how to drive a manual lol! Then let's not forget the time when Dad got his moped....we would go all over town finding the biggest hills to ride up and I remember him yelling at the top of what seemed like a mountain saying "Come on, that hill wasn't that bad!" He would sit patiently waiting at the top while I was walking my bike up and then when I finally got there him saying "good thing this doesn't take that much gas!" From trucks to mopeds but how about the sleigh rides on the Monona Golf Course! Those were always fun as we would ride and then for a while we each would take separate sleighs to see who would get back first for the hot chocolate and cookie that was waiting for us in the warming house. These are just a few of the memories that really stick out in my head and I hope that you have enjoyed reading them! We sure did have a lot of fun together! Till we meet again and you better pull on my ear Dad :0) Love you to pieces!!!

My sympathies to your whole family. Just talked to my Dad and he also sends his sympathies. It has been a lot of years but I still have many great memories from Boy Scout camping trips. I never did get around to thanking him for all the time he gave to the Scouts. (Thanks also to Fr. Hennington ) Tom & Bernie Mixtacki
