Burkard, Rose A.
MADISON – Rose A. Burkard, age 81, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at home, surrounded by her family. She was born on July 11, 1933, in Stitzer, Wis., the daughter of Mary and Louis Prochaska. She graduated from Livingston High School in 1951. Rose went to the School of Nursing in Dubuque, Iowa and then worked as a registered nurse for various hospitals. Rose married Dean Burkard on Sept. 29, 1956, in Montfort, Wis. Rose was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by her family including her husband, Dean; her children, Alan Burkard, Mary (Bart) Hebert, David (Paula Scheffler-Burkard) Burkard, and Donald (Sue) Burkard; her grandchildren, Jessica, Cody and Samantha Burkard, Brett, Michael and Megan Hebert, Taylor (Holly), Corbin, and Parker Burkard and Erin Burkard. She is further survived by several brothers and sisters; and nieces and nephews. Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Scott; and her grandson, James. Memorial services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2015, with the Rev. Jerry Amstutz presiding. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens at a later date. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Memorials may be made to, Make-A-Wish Foundation in Rose's name. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the staffs at Home Health United Hospice, especially, Rachel, and to the Stoughton Community Hospital for all of the care they gave to Rose and her family.

Mom,
Words can’t express how much you will be missed by the whole family. Your devotion and love for Dad, all of us kids, and the grand kids can’t be measured. It was pure and true. Even through all your pain you didn’t dwell on yourself, your focus was on Dad and the family.
I opened the freezer downstairs last night and noticed you had been making and stock piling individual meals for Dad. With all you were going through you were more concerned about Dad then yourself. Dad truly did marry the greatest person in the world… You!
As for us kids, what can I say other then you were and will always be the greatest Mom in the world. Nothing stood in the way for you being there for us. On behalf of all of us….THANK YOU.
As for the grandkids, they all loved you so much. One of the newest members to the family even said you were the grandmother she wished she always had. They loved your baking (and so did the rest of us), and knew whenever they showed up to the house something would be waiting for them.
I pray you have found peace, Scott and James. Give my son the hug I can’t give him.

The service for Rose was as beautiful as she was. As you know she was like a second Mom to me so the service was comforting and a reminder to me of how special she was. I look forward to having another angel up in heaven and planting rose bush in honor of her. RIP Rose.
