Obituary
Bethel, Lee
MONONA-Lee Bethel, age 91, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2015. He was born on May 17, 1923, in Madison, the son of Glen and Mae (Lee) Bethel. Lee was known as a kind and generous soul. He graduated from Madison West High School in 1940 and married Cecilia Skolaski on Feb. 5, 1944 at St. James Catholic Church. Lee and Cecilia lived in Beloit for a number of years and moved to Monona in 1963. Lee was a Boy Scout leader for many years in Beloit. He was an active parishioner, who performed many maintenance tasks for Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Monona. Lee's first employment was with Winnebago Auto Parts located next to the viaduct on Park Street in the 1940's. He retired from Eggimann Motors in 1988 where he spent the last 26 years in sales. Lee had a good mechanical mind and felt that trucks and automobiles were his calling and enjoyed his career. In retirement Lee turned his attention to woodworking and produced many cabinets and an assortment of knick-knacks. He loved to fish. The only time he said no to a cup of coffee is when he was asked if he had too much. He was deeply loved by his entire family. Lee is survived by his wife, Cecilia; children, Glen (Linda) Bethel of California, Rodney Bethel (Leslie Mink) of Sauk City, Gary (Linda) Bethel of Madison, Dennis Bethel (Susan Lee) of Lodi, and Judy (Bill) Clark of Stoughton; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rae Ambach. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Carolyn J. Bethel (4 months old); and sister, Donna McMicken. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St, Monona, at 11:30 a.m., on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, with Father John Silva presiding. Entombment with military honors will be conducted at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church or Agrace HospiceCare. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
