Obituary

Gray, Frederick Thomas "Buster" FITCHBURG– Frederick "Buster" Thomas Gray, age 68, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe on April 11, 2015. He was born on Aug. 31, 1946, in Tacoma, Wash. to the late Frederick Gray and Wauneta (Adams) Gray/Peck. Buster was enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967 in the Vietnam War where he earned a purple heart. He also worked as a mechanic for many years and took pride in helping others with any type of vehicle problem. Fred also had a gift of building cars and entering car shows; many will remember his 1970 Chevelle and his 1923 T-Bucket (Nasty T). Over the years he sparked an interest in boating and enjoyed spending time on the lake with family and friends. He also had a passion for animals and would visit and donate to the Dane County Humane Society on a regular basis. Buster is survived by his daughter, Shanon (Marty) Gransee of Albany, Wis.; two grandchildren, Autumn and Hunter; and one great-grandchild, Hailey; a sister, Cheryl Gray of Madison; a brother, Randy Gray of Des Moines, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Wauneta; and sister, Tami Gray. A memorial service celebrating Fred's life will be held at the VFW POST NO. 1318, 133 East Lakeside St. Madison, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m., on Saturday, May 9, 2015, with military honors at 4:30 p.m. and appetizers to follow. If anyone would like to bring any memories of Fred to share it would be greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Dane County Humane Society or the Wisconsin Veterans Foundation, Inc. in memory of Frederick T. Gray. We would like to give special thanks to the caring staff at Pleasant View Nursing Home and the Monroe Clinic Hospice Care unit's doctors and staff. Dad and I are saddened to learn of Buster's passing. Cancer ran through the Gray family. Buster's father, Freddy and my mother, Betty Jane, were brother and sister. Sadly, Freddy and his sister, Beatrice passed away before I was born, so I never got to meet all of mom's siblings and their families. May God be with you all during your time of sorrow.
