Obituary

Frankey, Morlynn Mae (Parker) MADISON – Morlynn Mae (Parker) Frankey, age 74, passed away at home on Friday, April 17, 2015, after completing an amazing life, on her terms, with peace in her soul and a smile on her face. Morlynn was born to parents, Dean and Arline Parker on June 28, 1940. She was united in marriage to Frederick John Frankey nearly 51 years ago on May 9, 1964. Morlynn's most important roles were as mother to Jennifer (Daniel) Moehn and Matthew (Amie) Frankey, and grandmother to her five beloved "lollipops", Jessica Arline Moehn, Carson Mae Frankey, Ethan Joseph Moehn, Madeline Claire Frankey and Grace Katherine Moehn. She grew up in Monona and attended Monona Grove High School then graduated from University of Wisconsin Madison. Morlynn spent 28 years on the Madison Police Department where she was a trailblazer for women, being the first woman promoted in the department's history and retiring as Inspector. She enjoyed spending time at her cottage on Wood Lake, side trips to the casino, doing the daily crossword puzzle, reading great books, and spending time with her grandchildren. Morlynn loved being Norwegian and the family tradition of lutefisk and lefse at Christmas. Morlynn is further survived and loved by her brother, Monty (Carolyn) Parker; many nieces and nephews; and a lot of very special friends. Morlynn was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Richard and Peter; and sister, Nancy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Agrace HospiceCare. Many thanks to the "angels" at Agrace for their care. A memorial gathering will be held at the GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. I worked closely with Morlynn when she was an Inspector (Assistant Chief) in the Madison Police Department and I was an Assistant City Attorney. She had such good judgment and, because of that, she was a terrific witness. She introduced me to TEMPO, an organization for professional women, and I enjoy it still. And we had great lunches together. Love you, Morlynn.

My Aunt Morlynn had such a huge impact on my life growing up and on my life as a woman on this earth. Her shining example of truly "having it all" - a loving family, a strong, independent sense of self and a challenging career, inspired me and I'm sure, countless others. Having worked at the Madison Police Department for a few years, I heard the rumblings of dissent about how things were changing and I know Morlynn took a lot of crap for her progressive beliefs but she persevered and never let that stop her. She truly did break through that glass ceiling at the MPD and I admired her a great deal for that. I loved her for many other reasons too - always welcoming me at the cottage, keeping the Norwegian family traditions of lutefisk and lefse alive, planning family reunions, taking such good care of Grandma Parker in her later years, her tremendous sense of interior style (I'll always remember the bathroom that was papered in magazine covers), and always being willing to help me with my garage sales. It's been a privilege Mori. Love from your niece Kathy.
