Obituary

Wiessinger, Lorraine McFARLAND – Lorraine Wiessinger, age 81, closed her eyes to briefly get some rest on Friday, April 10, 2015, and awoke in Heaven with a fully mended heart. Prior to that journey, she was surrounded by loved ones who cherished her in every conceivable way. Lorraine was born on Jan. 21, 1934 in Tomahawk, Wis., the daughter of Lawrence and Ida Schufletowski. She moved to Madison in 1952 after graduating from Tomahawk High School and worked for over 40 years as a legal secretary, most of those years at Murphy Desmond S.C. Lorraine is survived by her brother, Edwin (Zona) Schufletowski; children, Kay (Richard) Rasmussen, Aleta Severson, Ellen (Steven) Peck, Christine Lentz and Lawrence (Joe) Anderson; grandchildren, Michael Rasmussen, Richard (Rebecca), Jonathan and Timothy Severson, Noah (Stephanie) and Adam (Rachel) Peck, Molly (Michael) Daniels, J. Zachary, Erika and Courtenay Lentz, Nicole (Richard), and Adrian (Elyse) and Sean Anderson; great-grandchildren, Brooke, Caleb, Audrey, Eleanor, Danielle, Coraline and Amber. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Richard J. Anderson and Wilbur R. Wiessinger; also her daughter in law, Nancy Mustapich. Wife. Mother. Friend. Servant. Lorraine was gentle, kind and always forgiving. But most of all, she was impressive. She loved two great men in her life, and she lived right once. Lorraine took pleasures in simpler moments. A heart that was never quick to anger, loved ones struggle to recall a single moment whereupon Lorraine raised her voice (unless she was cheering on the Badgers, solving the Wheel of Fortune puzzle before everyone else in the room, or getting her late husband’s attention.) Lorraine shared that which filled her heart with all of those who knew her. The church that she was actively involved with brought such joy to her for over 50 years. She also spent many days volunteering at the Bethesda House of Thrift. The family that she built, and effortlessly led, was gifted with her love of books, art, music, nature and laughter. She encouraged uniqueness, nurtured each child, grandchild, and great grandchild differently, but absolutely. And no one ever left her home hungry because there was nothing in that beautiful Lake Waubesa house that she did not know to be useful, beautiful, or a reminder of her loved ones. She worked to serve others, not to acquire. “You cannot conceive, nor can I, the appalling strangeness that is the mercy of God.” Family and friends can only hope to know that answer someday, because she left too soon, and they certainly don’t make them like her anymore. Within Heaven’s gates, Lorraine can be found scurrying about in one of the Lord’s kitchens, or sitting amongst family and friends working on the latest jigsaw puzzle, or peacefully knitting in the corner so as to ensure that everyone stays warm. Funeral Services will be held at MONONA EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4411 Monona Dr., Monona, at 11 a.m., on Friday, April 17, 2015, with the Rev. Thomas Nowak presiding. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Condolences to all of Lorraine's family. I worked with her at MD & loved her. Her wise advice got me through many situations -she was a treasured confidante. She welcomed my husb & me into their lake home to enjoy her gardens & company for several hours. She was truly an angel & loved by all. The mold was broken when she passed -she truly was one-of-a-kind woman. She will be sorely missed!
