Obituary

MADISON- Glenn Esthray Otto, age 87, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2015. He was born on March 23, 1928 to Esthray William and Ruth Isabelle (Schlueter) Otto. Glenn grew up on a farm in Deerfield until the family moved to Madison. After a short stint in the U.S. Merchant Marines, Glenn graduated from Madison East High School. He married Lavone Brinkman on April 30, 1949. He proudly served four years in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Norfolk, Va. Upon returning to Wisconsin, Glenn and Bonnie were blessed with five children. He started L & O Tile Co. with Carl Larson, which he owned and operated for 40 years until his retirement. In retirement Glenn spent much of his time at his land just outside of Necedah raising earth worms, chickens, goats and many other animals. As they say, you can take the boy off the farm, but can’t take the farm out of the boy. During his lifetime, Glenn was an avid bowler, hunter and fisherman. He greatly enjoyed several hunting trips out west with his hunting companion Ray Cattell, fishing and camping expeditions with family and friends, but was most enthused with bowling, sponsoring many teams over the years, rolling many honor counts and even winning the city championship one year. Glenn is survived by his wife, Lavone”Bonnie” (Brinkman); children, Bruce (Sheryl), Marcia Otto, Janet Galle (Tony Schwersinske), Steve and Gregg; grandchildren, Amy Galle, Tony Galle, Amanda (Ryan) Alt, Abby Galle, Rebecca and Kasey Otto; sister, Eloyse (Reginald) Peters; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Beckwith and Agnes Brinkman. He was preceded in death by his parents. A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, the Rev. Gerry Kuhnke presiding. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. A special thank you to the staff of the CLC at the Wm. S. Middleton V.A. Hospital. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com. We would like to express our sincere sympathy to all of Glenn's family. We shared many good times with Glenn up north and at bowling events. Gregg, you may remember some of those good times. Many a time while up north we would stop by and find him taking care of his "farm" up there. He was a very fun person and will be missed by all. Sincerely, Keith and Jan Bush
