John Peter Strand

Cottage Grove/Bloom City - John P. (Chauncey) Strand, age 67, born Oct. 17, 1947, in Madison, was called to Heaven on April 1, 2015, in Cottage Grove. He was preceded into Heaven by his parents, John H. and Katherine M. (Wagner) Strand; his son, Jon Strand; daughter, Kimmer Johnson; and brother-in-law, Don Rutledge. He is survived by two daughters, Kristina Strand of Alabama and Tammy Strand (Karsten Spilde); his loving companion, Ruth (Denson) Strand; brothers and sisters, Terry (Nedeen) Strand, Barb Rutledge, Jim (Alvhid) Strand, Ken (Heather) Strand, Kathy Strand (Louie Firari); 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He worked many years at Omida. After retirement, he fulfilled his dream of enjoying the great outdoors and his cabin in Bloom City. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, teaching them how to hunt and fish. He also found immense joy, peace, and quiet at the family pond. He spent many years with his lifelong friend, Kurt (Terry) Anderson, having adventures that included camping, fishing, hunting, and laughter. A special thank you to his sister, Kathy, and family for the loving support they gave him. Last but not least, we thank Hospice for being there for him. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
