I well remember Mary Kathryn as a bright and sparkling light in our class at Madison's East High school that graduated in 1939. After World War II, we found each other again. then caring for our little children. We enjoyed taking them on picnics, as I remember. Mary Kathryn was always a joy to be with, and clever and competent in many ways. I send my condolences to her family with the hope that they can remember those happy days. Dorothy Browne Haines

We are very sorry for your loss. We loved having Mary and Gib help out at the hospital many years ago. They are both fondly remembered for their friendly and personable manner! They used to spend hours roaming the main floor of the hospital handing out coffee or juice to patients and visitors. Everyone knew them and loved them. We looked forward to their weekly visits! Mary was our neighbor on Acacia Lane in Madison, in the late 50s and early 60s. She had a beautiful pink house. I remember her as always kind and smiling. When I was about 3 in 1959, I came home with spaghetti sauce all over my face. I had been eating spaghetti from Mary’s dog’s dish in her backyard. My mom didn’t make spaghetti, so I was in heaven!! My mom (age 89) always laughs as she remembers that she asked Mary to please keep her dog dish inside!! Mary was very kind and agreed to move the dog dish. Mom can’t believe how crazy she was to ask Mary to move the dish, instead of watching her kid!! At that time we roamed free, even at age 3!! Mom always laughs about this, especially now that she has alzheimers and only remembers the 1960s and earlier. Mom is very grateful that Mary was so kind to her.
