Hi, I always enjoyed a visit and hug whenever I saw your Mom. It has been a while but will always remember her caring for others. Charlie and your Mom, were very special caring outgoing friendly people. Whenever I stayed w/Jeanne while your parents were out of town, we would always do something that we had to keep from your parents. I will always have smile and a warm heart when I remember them. You are in my thoughts and prayers, Candy Patterson

Sometimes people ask me about my childhood and childhood memories. The words I most frequently use to describe my childhood are, "perfect" and "idyllic." Laura Belle M. Howe was my grandmother and she is one reason why I had such a childhood. My memories of my grandparents , Laura and Charles (known to us as Grandma and Duppy ) include perfectly planned holidays, delicious meals and baking, carefully and thoughtfully selected gifts - never once was a birthday or holiday forgotten. My memories include a steadfast devotion to family, working hard, living well, doing the right thing and serving others. My memories include laughter, joy and sometimes just being silly. They lived quietly and plainly, they valued simple things and simple joys and they never really had to lecture or preach about how to live because their personal examples spoke volumes. In her declining years, Grandma still remembered my children - four of her great-grandchildren - for every birthday and holiday. She wrote out the cards and notes herself and many times included a crisp $5 dollar bill for each child - which was always greatly appreciated and made a big impression! These careful, thoughtful gestures on her part have ensured that my children share memories of her. I am thankful. I turned forty this year and with Grandma's passing, I have no more grandparents. I know that I should be thankful for her life (and I am) but is impossible not to feel like a little girl again, a little girl who has lost her grandmother. I feel ten again. I feel like I'm not old enough to handle this. It's difficult not to feel lost. Except, I know that's not what she would do. It's certainly not the example she has set. She would be strong. She would do her very best. She would take care of her family. So, I will follow her example. Thank you, Grandma. This is not goodbye forever, this is goodbye for now. I will meet you There.

Well, I recall visiting Charlie & Laura Belle HOWE many times during my childhood and enjoying the memories both brought to it. My dad, mom and the two of them (Charlie & Laura Belle) were great friends and Charlie always had a smile on his face, Laura Belle a warm and friendly person. I recall her having to cook for the inmates at the Green County Jail during Charlie's tenure as Green County Sheriff. Maybe their example caused me to go into law enforcement later in life. I remember having cheese and crackers at their home, I believe just South of Rufenacht oil service station that I believe was on 11th Avenue. Great memories with Charlie playing the harp and later the bag pipes. Good people to help formulate and mold me into an adult. Dan TSCHUDY Scottsdale, Arizona
