Doris Polley

MADISON–Doris Polley, died peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2015. Her beautiful smile is now smiling down on us from heaven. Doris was a great wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a lifelong resident of Wisconsin. Doris was born on May 20, 1923, in Stoughton, to Abraham and Minnie Holtan. She graduated from Stoughton High School in 1941 and attended nursing school at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. Doris became a registered nurse in 1944 and cared for many patients as a surgical and private duty nurse as well as a radiology nurse at the University of Wisconsin Hospital. She was united in marriage to Charles W. “Chuck” Polley on Feb. 20, 1948, by his father the Rev. Charles R. Polley. They spent 67 years smiling and holding hands. They were blessed with two sons, David and Steven. Doris and Chuck were volunteers at St Mary’s hospital for 20 years. Doris also volunteered at the Executive Mansion and Belmont Rehabilitation Center. With her nursing background, she volunteered as the camp nurse at Lake Waubesa Bible Camp. She was a Sunday school teacher, loved singing in the choir, and baked many Christmas cookies that she shared with her friends and shut-ins. Doris is survived by her husband of 67 years, Chuck Polley; sons, David (Deanna) of Fitchburg and Steven (Robin) of Verona; four grandchildren, Robert (Adele) Polley of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Kristen (Troy) Bystol of Verona, Mike (Laurel) Polley of Yorkville, Ill., and Chuck (Alli) Polley of Verona; eight great-grandchildren, Dylan, Jared, Payton, Parker, Morgan, Nicolas, Zoey, and Emme; sisters-in-law, Wilma Haist and Laurie Holtan; and numerous nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Roger, Howard, and Robert; and her sister, Marian. Funeral services will be held at DOOR CREEK CHURCH, 6602 Dominion Drive, Madison, (Corner of Sprecher Rd. and Dominion Dr.) at 11 a.m., on Friday, March 27, 2015, with the Rev. Cal Steiner presiding. Visitation will be held at the church at 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lake Waubesa Bible Camp, 2851 Crescent Drive, McFarland, WI 53558-9268 or Door Creek Church in Doris’ honor.
