Obituary

Schmidtke, Jean C. MONONA–Jean C. Schmidtke, age 80, of Monona, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on February 7, 1935, in Madison, the daughter of Leonard and Kathryn Shaffer. Jean was a graduate of Middleton High School. On March 9, 1953, she married Kendal Schmidtke, her high school sweetheart and one true love. Together, they were blessed with six children. Jean worked at Central Colony (now Central Wisconsin Center), then worked as a supervisor at Swiss Colony. While living in Westfield, Jean worked as a home health care provider for many years. Jean is survived by her children, Barb Schmidtke (Glenn Wolfe) of Madison, Gary (Judy) Schmidtke of Montello, Jim Schmidtke of Westfield, Steve (Julie) Schmidtke of Sun Prairie, Ken (Fran) Schmidtke of Coloma, and Kathy (Robert) Khalar of Waukesha; 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; brothers, Bob (Ruth) Shaffer, Jim (Marsha) Shaffer and Mike (Nancy) Shaffer; sister, Jerri Stampfli; nieces and nephews; and her feline babies, Shadow and Tigger. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kendal; sister, Sharon Grosse; granddaughter, Lisa Stansbury; and her cat, Bear. At her request, no services will be held. Special thank you to Home Health and Home Health Hospice for their tender-loving care. Our love and thanks to all of her good friends for their kindness and compassion.
