Obituary

BLOOMING GROVE– Bernice M. Schnurbusch, age 86, died on Monday, March 2, 2015, at the UW Hospital. She was born on April 26, 1928, in Carson, North Dakota, the daughter of Konrad and Magdalena Zimbelman. She attended high school and graduated in 1948 from North Central Bible Institute in Minneapolis, MN. She moved from North Dakota to Madison, WI to live with her sister and husband and got a job as a cake decorator at the Federal Bakery. She met Donald Schnurbusch at Bethesda Church in Madison, WI and theirs was the first wedding at the church on March 24, 1956. Bernice was a homemaker until her children were grown. She worked at various places, ending her employment at the age of 80 at the Douglas Stewart Company. Bernice loved cooking, baking, canning, freezing and traveling. Around Christmas time, she made up gift boxes of peanut brittle and numerous assortments of cookies. She enjoyed sending out birthday cards every week and kept a birthday book that had pages for each day and month of the year. She almost met her goal to fill the book up with a person’s birthday for every day of the year. Bernice enjoyed serving for many years as a Sunday school teacher, teaching the kids about Jesus Christ. Bernice is survived by her son, Earl (Deborah) of Oconomowoc; her daughters, Roxanne Schnurbusch of Cottage Grove and Audrey Schmitz (Darren) of Madison; granddaughter, Lauren Schnurbusch; sister, Erna Hazard of Cottage Grove; sister-in-law, Ruth Zimbelman of Minot, ND; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. My heart goes out to you kids. Bernice and I knew each other since I was 16 and we went to Bethseda church. On Sun afternoons between services we would go to prison farms and nursing homes and tried to life their spirits and tell them the gospel . One time something was said and all of got laughing so hard we had to cut the meeting short. Jim Ackley was the one who took us and what a wonderful man he was. Bernice stood up for my wedding to Jim, and we went back and forth a lot for meals. Keep looking up and God is the only one to carry you thru. Love you but God loves you more. I have such fond memories of picking apples with Bernice, Roxanne, and Audrey at Grandma and Grandpa's orchard. My thoughts are with you, and I hope your memories of happier times ease your loss.

The good and happy times were numerous with Don and Bernice - we enjoyed taking our children out to their place to visit with them. We enjoyed seeing the message on the side of the barn wen traveling the interstate. When we saw their place we knew we were close to home. Always enjoyed the birthday that we received from Bernice. They were and will be missed. Love and prayers go out to you and the family. Dallas & Donna Kleeman

John and Sharon Shotwell family, Bernice was a special kind of lady. Our family had many meals in her home with Don and the children. She always had a wonderful home cooked meal to share with others over the years. She also hosted a lot of parties at her house. I remember one New Year's eve she and Don invited the young couples from our church over after the church service for an all night Toboggan party. What fun we had sliding down their long hill with as many as could fit in for the ride. . She had the gift of hospitality, liked to interact with people and share a bit of wit, humor or words of wisdom on a variety of subjects. She served well wherever her heart led her. Three wonderful children that cared for her well being, and were believers and followers of Jesus. just as their mother and father were.
