Marcella A. Kennedy

MADSION– Marcella A. “Marcie” (Vanderbloemen) Kennedy, age 97, of Madison, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2015, at Capitol Lakes Health Center. She was born on July 26, 1917, in Ludington, Mich., the daughter of Anton and Serena (Hillestad) Vanderbloemen. Marcie married Harold Kennedy in 1941. She worked for the Wisconsin Telephone Company for 36 years as an operator. Marcie spent countless hours volunteering for the Telephone Pioneers, Meriter Hospital and Capitol Lakes. Her greatest joy was her family. She took great pride that “the family” was so close knit. In times of joy and challenges they faced life together. Marcie was a remarkable matriarch and loved by all. She loved to travel, garden and play cards but most of all she loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandson. Marcie is survived by her children, Jim Kennedy, Bob (Karen) Kennedy, Jerry (Vikki) Kennedy, and Ruth Kocvara; nine grandchildren, Julie, Scott (Julie), Matt (Sara), Todd (Wendy), Joa, Jeremy (Lori), Mike, Cory and Andy; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Richard (Dorothy), John (Linda) and George; and sisters, Helen (Louie) King, Ann (Tom) O’Brien and Lillian. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, with the Rev. Scot Sorenson presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, and also from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Wisconsin Council of the Blind or H.W. Schroeder Life Member Club of the Telephone Pioneers.
