Obituary
FITCHBURG – David J. O’Connell, age 64, passed away on Monday, Feb. 23, 2015. He was born on Nov. 23, 1950, in Geneva, Ill., the son of John F. and Barbara J. (Hanson) O’Connell. David married Mary Moriarty on Oct. 13, 1984, in St. Paul, Minn. He graduated with degrees from Macalester College in St. Paul, Drake Law School in Des Moines and the University of Minnesota. He worked as a Human Resources Director for Rock County, retiring in January. David enjoyed golfing, traveling and the Cubs. He is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Will; daughter, Julia; brother, Greg (Debbie); and nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL HOME, 2950 Chapel Valley Rd., Fitchburg, at noon, on Saturday., Feb. 28, 2015. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Mike Armbrust Transplant Fund, c/o UW Foundation. Mrs. O'Connell and family: I was deeply saddened to hear of Dave's passing. As a AFSMCE President and Rock County employee, I had the honor of working with David on many issues. He was an honorable, fair man. He will be deeply missed here at Rock County.
