Joan was an extraordinary person; friendly and outgoing, always ready to mentor new professionals in The Costume Society of America. She was so willing to give advice on dating photographs using the clothing worn by the subjects; I sent many to her and she always responded with impeccable scholarship and warm humor. She knew so much, and was so willing to share what she knew! I use her book Dating Photographs every week. What a wonderful person and wonderful friend. I miss you, Joan!
