Obituary

Kofron, Linda E. (Webster) MADISON– Linda E. (Webster) Kofron, age 64, passed away on Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, at Agrace HospiceCare, with her daughter at her side, after a long and courageous battle with ALS. She was born on Aug. 10, 1950, in Rhinelander, Wis., the daughter of Shirley Mae and Thomas E. Webster. Linda grew up in Rhinelander and attended Rhinelander High School, graduating in 1968. She moved to Madison in 1969, where she worked at Central Colony with children with disabilities. In August 1970, Linda married Ronald Sommerfeldt, her high school sweetheart, and then went on to work as a teacher at a local daycare center. In the 1980s, she moved to Tucson, Ariz; where she married John Kofron. During Linda’s time in Arizona, she worked at the Tucson Fire Department, serving in many capacities, including; fire/arson investigator, EMT and Fire Marshall with the State of Arizona. Later, she became a Certified Nursing Assistant, as well as various other positions until she moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where she worked in consumer relations for DHL. In the late 1990s, Linda moved to Madison and took a position in the media relations department with American Family Insurance, until her retirement in 2012. She returned to work as a CNA and spent endless hours caring for others until the progression of her disease would no longer allow it. Linda lived her life with a generous heart, and was ever so thrifty. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, especially her mini adventures with her granddaughter, Hallie. Linda enjoyed gardening, sewing and loved to cook. She made several cookbooks based on recipes she loved to make. Linda is survived by her daughter, Susan Anderson (Washebeck); granddaughter, Hallie of Madison; step-son, Henry (Kristy) Kofron; granddaughters, Ruby and Zella of Portland, Ore.; stepson, John (Rachel) Kofron; grandsons, Jack and Morgan of Fairfield, Conn.; mother, Shirley Mae Swearingen of Rhinelander; brothers, Lane (Karen) Webster of Waunakee, and Paul (Rita) Webster of Rhinelander; sisters, Kerry Webster of Rhinelander, Carla Webster of Rhinelander and Brenda Truitt of Naples, Fla.; step-brothers, John Swearingen of Rhinelander, Randy Swearingen of Illinois, and Tom Swearingen of Rhinelander; numerous other nieces and nephews; and other loving family and friends. Linda was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Webster; her son, Theron Kofron; her step-father, Mark Swearingen; and step-brother, Richard Swearingen. A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL HOME, 2950 Chapel Valley Rd., Fitchburg, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015, with a light luncheon to follow. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2:30 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. I know it's been years, but I just came across this. I was best friends with Theron (Tiny) and she was always so kind to me. I tried to keep in touch with her after Theron took his own life but I think it was too hard for her. I will remember her fondly. Brian
