Iacovoni, Mary Jean Whalen
MADISON– Mary Jean Whalen Iacovoni, age 82, died peacefully on Monday, Feb. 9, 2015, at St. Mary’s Care Center. She was born on Dec. 6, 1932, to William and Kathryn Whalen in Madison. Mary Jean attended grade school at Blessed Sacrament and graduated from Edgewood High School. She went on to attend Marquette University and St. Mary’s School of Nursing, graduating with Honors. She became a Registered Nurse, dedicating her life to helping others. Mary Jean loved her family and cherished her friendships. She loved baking cookies with her granddaughters, attending weekly Saturday mass with her best friends, and volunteering at the St. Mary’s Gift Shop. She was an avid sports fan who never missed a game, and loved recapping every Law and Order episode with her granddaughter, Emily. All who knew Mary Jean loved her great and dry sense of humor, her Irish heritage, her passion for helping others, and especially, her love for chocolate milk shakes! She will be fondly remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, friend and nurse. Mary Jean will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Mary Jean is survived by her daughters, Kelly Kraus of Austin, Texas and Peggy (Jason) Iacovoni of Denver, Colo.; and her two granddaughters, Katie and Emily Kraus of Austin, Texas. She will be greeted in Heaven by her parents, William and Kathryn; and her four brothers, Bill, Dick, Dean and David Whalen. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at BLESSED SACRAMENT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2115 Rowley Avenue, Madison, at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. In honor of Mary Jean’s memory, donations may be made to St. Mary’s Hospital in care of St. Mary’s Care Center, or Edgewood High School. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s Care Center, Home Health United Hospice and Agrace Hospice for their compassionate and attentive care of Mary Jean.
