Haack, Catherine M.
MADISON–Catherine M. Haack passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at the age of 100, at Skaalen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stoughton, Wis. She was born on April 30, 1914, to parents, Jake and Katherine Baer of Wisconsin Rapids. Catherine married Frank P. Haack on June 11, 1947. The couple lived in Madison, Wis., and operated Haack’s Bicycle Shop and raised a daughter, Ann C. Haack.
Catherine is survived by a special great-niece, Valerie (Ray) Stimpson; nieces; nephews; and close friends. Valerie would like to thank all of Catherine’s caregivers from Skaalen Nursing and Rehab for all the wonderful care they gave her over the past four plus years. Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; daughter, Ann; her parents; a sister; and a brother. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Saturday. Entombment to follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. In the short time I knew Catherine at Skaalen, I found her to be one of my favorite people there. She was kind and gentle and always had stories to share with me. She will be missed but not forgotten.

We bought Mrs. Haack's house on Regent Street in 1990, enjoyed meeting her, and regret that we lost touch with her. Her old neighbors here remember her fondly. We often mention her name because we would like to have asked her many questions about this old house and her life in it. She and her husband were only the second owners of this house, built in 1906, and we're only the third. We've always felt connected to her, and we've tried to take good care of her house. Alan was doubly sorry about not staying in touch when he read the obit and learned that the Haacks had owned the bike shop on E Washington where he bought his first Schwinn. Rest in peace, Mrs. Haack!
