Obituary

Mackesey, Vincent T. MADISON – Vincent T. Mackesey, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on Nov. 20, 1923, in Pine Bluff, Wis., the fourth of seven children of the late Agnes C. (Farrell) and Stephen A. Mackesey. Vince was raised on a farm in Dunn, where he was in charge of meeting Bessy the cow at the gate. He graduated from West High School in 1940 and on July 1, 1950, he was united in marriage to Arline Frank at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, where they were charter members. Vince is from a family of builders who, along with his brothers, built many houses on the West side of Madison in the S. A. Mackesey subdivision. He took pride in his work, loved stopping by construction sites and, in his later years, supervising his son Mike on his jobs. Vince and his wife Arline, along with their son, Mark and daughter-in-law, Patti, took great pride in the family business, Mackesey's Irish Pub, which they opened in 1983. During his retirement, Vince was charged with cleaning the building every morning, and was a beloved personality at the Pub and on State Street. Kind, with a great sense of humor, he loved to visit with friends and family at Triangle Market and Portabella Restaurant in the mornings. A sharp memory, he loved to play solitaire and to go on long drives where he would show family members places close to his heart. Vince is survived by his three children, Mark (Patti) of Monona, Mary “Patty” (Pat) Reavey of Milwaukee, and Mike (Donna) of Monroe; and five grandchildren, Crystal, Amanda, Rob, Caitlin and Cara. He is also survived by his sisters, Evelyn and Kathleen; and sister-in-law, Jackie Mackesey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Arline; his parents; brothers, Tom (and Betty), Ed (and Doris) and Richard; and sister, Millie (and Babe Lewis). A memorial service will be held at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE, 401 S. Owen Dr., Madison, at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, with Monsignor James Uppena presiding. Visitation will take place at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Vince’s name to the Madison Catholic Multicultural Center or a charity of the donor’s choice. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Donna Mackesey, who lovingly cared for him, allowing him to fulfill his wishes of being home, Agrace HospiceCare, and the family of Queen of Peace Parish. I will always miss the ways Vince messed with me every time I saw him. His humor always made me nervous but his smirk was hard for him to hide...thank God. I hope God has a sense of humor...ready or not here Vince comes.

I am so honored to have Vince as my uncle and a friend. A HUGE heart, a smart wit, a never ending smile, a firm handshake and an appreciation for all things good under God. While all who were blessed to know Vince will miss him, I take solace that he is with God, Arline and his family who went before him. I know Dangster has been wanting to catch up with his big brother and give him a firm handshake and a hug for some time. Now they can do that. My prayers and love to all the family. I love you Uncle.
