Obituary

MIDDLETON- David Frank Pilmer, of Middleton, Wisconsin, passed away on January 17, 2015 while surrounded by his family. David spent most of his life in Southern California, having been born in Pasadena on April 22, 1938. The son of Frank A. and Irene Pilmer, David attended Polytechnic School (Pasadena) and graduated from Arcadia High School. He attended Stanford University, graduating in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering; he was also a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity. After his graduation, he served 8 years in the United States Navy. As a lieutenant in the Navy, he served in the nuclear submarine fleet (USS Seadragon) and as an engineering instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy. Upon his honorable discharge, David received a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. He worked as a nuclear engineer for Southern California Edison for nearly 40 years, until he retired in 2008. David was proud to have been involved in the construction, operation and shutdown of portions of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station. David married Linda Katherine Keller, the love of his life, on July 18, 1964; they celebrated their 50th anniversary with their family last summer in Honolulu, where David and Linda first lived when they were married. David’s hobbies and interests were many and varied. He enjoyed restoring classic cars, playing piano, classical music and opera, and fine wine. He was very active, and he had a love for hiking, the mountains, and traveling. He was very proud to be an alumnus of Stanford University. But most of all, he was especially devoted to and enjoyed many precious moments with Linda and his family. He is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Robert Alexander Pilmer (and wife Susan), Denise Irene Pilmer Taylor (and husband Christopher), and Theodore George Pilmer; grandchildren Andrew David Pilmer, Alexandria Janet Pilmer, Eleanor Megan Taylor, and Sophie Nicole Taylor; and siblings Robert G. Pilmer and Shirley Crawford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gilda’s Club, where David was a member of the men’s group for many years. Donations can be made online (www.gildasclubmadison.org) or mailed to Gilda's Club Madison Wisconsin, 7907 UW Health Court, Middleton WI 53562.

My condolences to the entire Pilmer family. I had the true pleasure of working with David over many years, first as a vendor and then as a member of the SCE staff at SONGS. He was not only an outstanding engineer and problem solver, he was a true gentleman and a pleasure to work with. He will be missed by all, including his many friends. Ed Scherer

My sincere condolence to DaAve's family. I worked with Dave at SONGS in Nuclear Licensing for many years., My office was across his. On a few occassions we had chances to talk not about the job-related stuff and I always enjoyed his broad knowledge in many areas and keen interests in many things. Always ready to help and never too busy to listen and to share a good joke. Great sense of humor. It was a pleasure to work with him. Rest in peace , Dave. You were the Mensch! Ark..

My deepest condolences to Dave's family and friends. I worked with Dave at SONGS for years and always enjoyed encountering him. He and Jarlath Curran were best of friends at work and I always got a warm fuzzy feeling every time I saw them together... Birds of a feather. Dave was a sweet, kind, funny man, and he'll be missed.

I'm recalling Dave from Arcadia High School where he was a part of my group of friends. And also for his membership in the Acappilla Choir and as a main Tenor vocalist with the group. You are missed. Dick Simpson
