Obituary

WAUNAKEE-Wilma E. Bernards, age 72, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. She was born on December 23, 1942 in Madison, the daughter of Walfred and Grace (Conway) Johnson. Wilma was united in marriage to Norbert Bernards on June 8, 1963 in St. Peter’s Catholic Church Ashton. A 1960 graduate of Monona High School she went to work for the State of Wisconsin as a secretary until taking time off to raise her family. Wilma joined the University of Wisconsin as a program assistant in 1986 until her retirement. Wilma and Norb enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and foreign countries, but truly treasured most the time they spent with their grandchildren and their activities. In addition to her husband Norbert, of 51 years, Wilma is survived by a daughter Patti (Peter) Lee; two sons, Michael (Dawn) Bernards, Don (Cathy) Bernards; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jamie Lee, Megan and Tommy Bernards and Luke, Annie and Jane Bernards and three sisters-in-law, Betty Johnson, Lynell Johnson and Marguerite Bernards. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Harold, Dick and Bill Johnson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. PETER’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7121 County Trunk K, Ashton at 11 AM on Saturday, January 17, 2015, with Father Brian Dulli presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, 2015 from 4 PM until 7 PM at the GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton and also on Saturday at the church from 10 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Brain Tumor Association or St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Wilma was loved by all whose lives she touched and will be deeply missed.
