COTTAGE GROVE-Mark Derlein, age 52, became our guardian angel on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015. He was born on April 23, 1962, in Madison, the son of George and Elizabeth (Jacobson) Derlein. Mark grew up in Monona and attended Monona Grove High School. He was united in marriage to Barbara Hoppman on June 29, 1985. Mark was an accomplished bow hunter and fisherman. He spent time fishing in Canada and enjoyed NASCAR. Mark also loved riding his Harley Davidson and always “led the pack” while riding. He was a great baker and his cookies were amazing! Mark always put his heart into all he did. He loved his daughters and cherished the time spent with his family, friends and dog, Lily. Mark is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters, Nicole (Jason Wepking) Derlein and Melissa (fiance’ Daniel Walton) Derlein; mother, Elizabeth Derlein; siblings, Carin (Elliott Jones) Kaiser, Susan Derlein, Diane Haeger, Bryan (Tami) Derlein, Marcia Spurbeck, and Dan (Lhotte) Derlein. He is further survived by several nieces; nephews; in-laws; friends and his biker family. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel to be surrounded by the amazing friends that Mark surrounded himself with. He was preceded in death by his father, George Derlein; dog, Christy; and his unborn grandbaby, Evelyn Maye. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 23, 2015. We are going to miss Mark so very much. Mark was a wonderful, caring human being that had so MUCH love to give to everyone he came in contact with. The happiest days of his life was when his two beautiful daughters, Nicole and Melissa were born and marrying Barb. Marks smile was infectious. He found joy in everything he was a part of. He will be missed greatly. RIP my dear Brother in law.

The day he came out of your room at L&M in his Sponge Bob boxers and HD boots Only. I thought that we all were going to laugh until we cried. Remember the time last year he come out of your room again with his Fast Eddie shirt on and had a Dopey (from 7 dwarf) sewed on his shirt. That was so cool. Made sure he showed me right away.
