Obituary
Oliver, Cathleen Ann "Cathy"
MADISON-Cathleen Ann "Cathy" Oliver went home to be with the Lord after a 12-month battle with cancer. Cathy was born at the old St. Mary’s Columbus Hospital on July 13, 1949, to Charles and Marlis (Gogert) Oliver, of Columbus. After the family’s move to Madison in 1957, Cathy attended Herbert Schenk Elementary and Junior High Schools. She graduated from Robert M. La Follette High School in 1967. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she enjoyed cheering the Badgers to victory as a UW cheerleader. After graduation in 1971, Cathy served the Edgewood area as a school and public health nurse. In 1981, Cathy moved to Dallas, Texas, where she lived, worked and played tennis for 30 years. She earned a master’s degree in Biblical studies from Dallas Theological Seminary. Although Dallas, Texas, was her home for many years, Cathy spent brief periods caring for elderly friends and family in Sun Prairie and Madison, along with Jackson, Miss. Cathy’s personal experience with cancer began in January 2014 and ended Dec. 31, 2014. With family at her side and with constant love and prayer support from her friends and church families around the country, her gentle soul peacefully passed from this life into the waiting arms of her savior Jesus Christ. She is survived by her father, Charles (Shirley Fogo) of DeForest; brother, Rod of Stoughton; sisters, Julie (Ron) Scalissi of Cottage Grove, and Jill (Jack) Jackson of Stafford, Va.; uncle, Jim Oliver of Columbus; and aunt, Bettywynn (Gogert) Warburton of Overton, Nev. Cathy was preceded in death by her mother, Marlis; sister-in-law, Jean Lewis; uncle, Donald Oliver; and many other relatives. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at BASHFORD UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 329 North St., Madison, with the Rev. Fran Deaner officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

We are so sorry to hear of Cathy's passing. Her father, Charlie, has mentioned her several times at our Wednesday morning breakfasts and she was in our prayers. We wish to express our deepest sympathy to Charlie, his wife, Shirley, and Cathy's two sisters and brother.
Sincerely,
Erik and Pat Popp

Cathy , always happy and enthusiastic. My husband, Mike Linde, attended school with Cathy at Schenk and LaFallotte.
I met Cathy as a newbie my senior year at LaFollette. She and a few others girls were looking for me as they were informed of my moving to Madison. They embraced me and included me in all their activities.
They made my senior year memorable and I loved them all for the love they shared with me. I also met Mike at LaFollette and this year we will celebrate our 45th anniversary.
I connected with Cathy last year when I heard of her illness and e-mailed her. She seemed surprised that I remembered her but I told her that her kindness could never be forgotten.
So thankful she is a born again Christian and had a strong faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. We offer our sincere sympathy and condolences to her family in their loss of Cathy. Nancy Wright Linde and Michael Linde of Jacksonville, Florida

Cathy's family, you are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Cathy and I were in the class of '67 at LaFollette High School together.
