Obituary
MONONA-Joan F. Ochalla, age 82, died on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at the Charleston House in Beaver Dam. She was born on November 25, 1932, in Madison, the daughter of Frank and Frances Karls. Joan graduated from Edgewood High School in 1950. She married Lloyd L. Ochalla on May 7, 1955 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Joan worked for Kohl’s Department Store for 22 years, retiring in 2006. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Joan is survived by her children, Linda Hagberg (Bill Brockman) of Brooklyn, Keith (Lorraine) Ochalla of Sun Prairie, Kurt (Jo-Anne) Ochalla of Boston, Mass., and Rhonda (Joel) Landaal of Waupun; grandchildren, Zandra Hagberg, Trenton and Alyssa Landaal, and Justin, Julia, and Jonathan Ochalla; great-grandchildren, Joniece, Michael, Cashauna, Jazarah, Gavyn, and Gewelianni Hagberg; sisters, Betty Shepard and Mary Sutton; and a brother, Richard Karls. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd; a daughter Vickie in 1965; and a sister, Lois Gullickson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, with Fr. John Silva presiding. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dane County Humane Society and the Alzheimer’s Association. The family would like to thank the staff at Charleston House, Generations Hospice, and Dr. Amy Daley, for their kind and compassionate care. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
