Martin, Genevieve
MADISON–Genevieve Martin, age 97, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on Sept. 3, 1917, in Cape Vincent, NY, the daughter of George and Elizabeth Steenburgh. She married Frederick Martin on Aug. 27, 1941. They moved to Madison in 1985 to be closer to family. Genevieve enjoyed knitting, reading, playing cards and spending time with her family. She was very active in church both in New York and here at Bashford United Methodist Church and volunteered with many groups. Genevieve is survived by her daughter, Judith Phillips of Bellevue, NE; son, David (Ann) Martin of Madison; three grandchildren, Mark (Jennie) Phillips, Emily (Tom) Mayer, and Andrew Martin; and great-grandchildren, Maggie and David Phillips, and Oliver, Evelyn, Elodie Mayer; and her sister Grace Bailey of Calcium, N.Y. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Dan Phillips; and several brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, with the Rev. Brenda Wingfield presiding. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
