Obituary
Marvin, Loraine H.
MADISON– Loraine H. Marvin passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, at Harmony Assisted Living Center in Madison, Wis. She was born to John and Marie Hall on May 28, 1924. Loraine was born and raised in Madison, and lived on the east side most of her life, graduating from Madison Central High School. In 1945, she joined the U.S. Navy and the World War II Effort, training pilots in New York and Atlanta and serving as a Link Trainer in Corpus Christi, Texas. After the war, she returned to Madison to live, work and raise four kids. She worked at Sears, Hoffman House restaurant, Gisholt Machinery, for her brother at Xer-lith Printing, and had a long career with the State of Wisconsin working as Administrative Assistant for Robert C. Zimmerman in the Secretary of States’ office. At 63 years of age she retired from the State and enjoyed traveling to places like Alaska, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Spain and three separate trips to see the polar bears in northern Canada. She also took many cruises and enjoyed many local Bus-Abouts trips around the country. Some of Loraine’s passions were reading mystery novels, doing crossword puzzles, and collecting hundreds of mice figurines from all over the world. She was especially proud of getting her driver’s license at age 55 after being so busy raising kids, being a den mother, and sewing and knitting for most of her younger years. With her driver’s license she was able to go camping two or three times a year until her mid-eighties, and get around to her grandkids’ events. She believed she was the longest yearly consecutive camper at Lake Kegonsa State Park. Loraine is survived by her four children, Patricia (Ronald) Stauber, Kerry Marvin, Bruce (Donna) Marvin and Craig “Kip” (Margaret) Marvin; grandchildren, Michael, Zachary, Faye, Maxwell, Alexander, Shannon, Benjamin and Mary; great-grandchildren, Ermias and Medan; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister and camping partner, Genevieve Carlson; and sister-in-law, Gertrude Hall. Loraine was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, William and Frederick Hall. The Marvin family would like to thank the folks at Oak Park Place and Harmony Assisted Living Center for caring for Loraine the last six months. They would also like to thank the staff at Home Health United Hospice, who do a terrific job caring for end of life patients. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Loraine’s name to Home Health United Hospice. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. A private family burial will be at a later date. My sympathies to you and your families. I am currently in Florida and will not be able to personally speak with you. My heart goes out to you during this time, but know she had a wonderful, fulfilling life and is a better place now.
