I met Jan when I was in 5th grade when I met my best friend Emily. She has been a part of my life ever since. She taught me how to knit, was there for both of my children, went through tough times with me, and made me the most wonderful cakes every year! I love her and she will be greatly missed and leave a small whole in my heart. She took me on as if I was one of her own, and I will be forever grateful to her for the time I got to have with her. RIP Jan, you are gone but never forgotten. Love, Elisha

I felt so sorry to hear the news. I am Janet's AFS daughter from the year 1993-1994. She has been so close and loving to me. I feel so sad and miss her presence. I am glad I was able to visit her in Madison in the beginning of this year. I feel grateful to have met someone so special as she was so easy to talk to. I will remember her always... With all my heart. Duysal, from Istanbul, Turkey

I am one of her many "imaginary friends." My condolences to Janet's family. We miss her so much. I feel blessed to have "known" her. Pam Crabtree/blue jersey mom

Jan always had a song to sing--I met her years ago at a Middleton Community Chorus group, and remember her energy, humor and musical spirit during those rehearsals. And I can't forget her custom license plate! I'm so sorry for your loss, Chuck and Emily. Jan was an engaging, positive force in this life, and I'm certain she will be even more so in the next.

Chuck and Emily, I'm so sorry for your loss. Chuck, you were attentive to your wife through all the health challenges...an excellent roll model of unconditional love. I love you! A favorite memory of mine was Jan teaching me chop sticks on the piano when I was a young lad. She proudly wore the badge of liberalism, and was able to articulate her understanding of all the latest political agendas. Jan also had a naughty bent that I thoroughly enjoyed! She was my favorite sister in law.
