Obituary
Anderson, Richard A. “Rick”
MONONA/COTTAGE GROVE-Richard A. “Rick” Anderson, age 62, of Cottage Grove, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, at home. He was born on Feb. 5, 1952, in Madison, the son of Richard L. and Marcella (Czapla) Anderson. He graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1970 and was also a graduate of MATC with a degree in mechanical design and on the Dean’s List. Rick was formally employed as a piping designer for Affiliated Engineers, Inc. and most recently employed with Johnson Health Tech in Cottage Grove. Rick was very passionate about playing the guitar, writing songs, cooking, gardening, sculpting, and woodworking. But his greatest joy was being surrounded by his family; they were the center of his life. Rick is survived by his wife, Janine; mother, Marcella Sommers; sister, Pam Anderson; his children, Kolina, Mandy, Jamie, Derek and Chance; grandchildren, Kayla, Cicada and Jayden; step-brothers, Larry Sommers of Monroe and David (Elizabeth) Sommers of Arlington, Texas; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; father; step-father, LaVerne “Gus” Sommers; and step-brother, Timothy Sommers. A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 4 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, with the Rev. Sandra Schieble presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday. The family requests that you join them for a remembrance and light luncheon directly following the service. A private burial will be held at a later date. Rick was a friend to everyone he met, he was a free spirit, with a unique sense of humor, and gave his all to help others. There was never a dull moment in his company. Rick was a loving father, brother and son with the kindest heart. He was the most caring man you would ever meet. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Rick was a kind and gentle soul; soft spoken and humble. As kids our families were close so I have lots of happy memories from our childhood through young adulthood. I send my deepest condolences to Rick's family during this difficult time. Hold his memory close to your hearts. I will as well.
