Obituary

MADISON - Lucuille E. Springer (née Sokolosky) died peacefully at Kindred Hearts Assisted Living Facility in Madison, WI, on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at the age of 91. Lucille was born on June 3, 1923 in Fairchild, WI, to Henry and Susan (Dubiel) Sokolosky. She attended school in rural Fairchild before marrying Ernie Blang on Aug. 22, 1940, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fairview (near Fairchild). The couple had four children before Ernie, a World War II veteran who served in the South Pacific, passed away on July 25, 1965. During her marriage to Ernie, Lucille worked at various jobs in Fairchild including as a punch operator in a box factory, a cook for two different cafes, and a resident assistant at the Fairchild Nursing Home. Ernie was a railroad gandy dancer for nearly 40 years. On Dec. 21, 1970, Lucille married Charles “Chuck” Springer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Altoona, WI. The coupled lived in Eau Claire where Chuck worked at a steel plant before retiring in 1988. He and Lucille enjoyed their retirement years by traveling, especially to country music venues, and fishing together until Chuck passed away in March 2007. Lucille moved to Madison in 2009. Lucille is survived by two daughters Janice (Robert) Lightfoot and Barbara (Richard) Amundson, both of Eau Claire, and a son Dennis (Carol) Blang of Madison, as well as a sister Susan (Roy) Skroch of Independence, sister-in-law Rocille (Adolph) Sokolosky, 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren,1 great-great grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; Ernie Blang; Chuck Springer; a son Gary (Anna) Blang of Morton, Washington; a grandson Marcus (Dennis and Carol) Blang, and siblings Angie (Jim) Geisdorf, Hank Sokolosky, Adolph (Rocille) Sokolosky, Ray (Dorothy) Sokolosky, and step-sister Marian Koboski. A funeral mass is scheduled for 11:30 am on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Division and N. Dewey St., Eau Claire. Rev. George Thayilkuzhithottu will officiate the ceremony. There will be no visitation prior to the service. Burial, at a later date, will be at St. John Cantius Parish cemetery in Fairchild.
