COTTAGE GROVE–Mary Reese, of Cottage Grove, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Monday, Dec. 1, 2014. Mary was born Jan. 17, 1927, to Valrie and Loretta Esch. She married Joseph Reese on May 3, 1948. Mary enjoyed a lifelong career in nursing, but best of all, being with her family and friends. She was active in St. Patrick Catholic Church, bible study, and the Cottage Grove Seniors. Mary is survived by her children, Mike (Judeen) Reese and children, Eric (Heather) Reese and Anne (Bill) Haithcock; Mark (Judy) Reese; Rick Reese and children, Colin and Callie Reese; Janna Reese; Jeanne (Daniel) Kessenich and children, Teresa (Joe) Gaspard, Todd (Alison) Kessenich and Katie (Dan) Schwab; Tim (Linda) Reese and children, Katrina Reese and Charlie Jo Reese; Kristie (Ken) Trapino and children, Troy Trapino and Evan Trapino; Karen Swenson and children, Lexie and Caleb; and Tracy Reese; son-in-law, Mark Huston and daughter, Karly Jo (Scot) Schafer; 14 great-grandchildren, Megan, Emily, Jack, Lucas, Stella, Audrey, Nolan, Liam, Greer, Laken, Greta, Mary Violet, August and Baby Schafer; siblings, Jean Esch-Theobold, Joseph (Mary) Esch and Patrick (Margaret) Esch. She was preceded in death by her parents, Valrie and Loretta Esch; husband, Joseph; daughter, Mary Lisa Huston; son, Kelly Reese; brothers, James (Karen) Esch, and Thomas (Rita) Esch; and brother-in-law, Rupert Theobold. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC CHURCH, 434 N Main St, Cottage Grove, at 11:30 a.m., on Friday, Dec. 5, 2014. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to VFW Post No. 7591, Agrace HospiceCare, or St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cottage Grove. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

To the entire Reese family, I have so many fond memories of Mary growing up with Kris ( and all the rest of the kids) . Spending the weekends in the "Grove" at your house all the way from Monona after school on Fridays . Sneaking out going sledding or swimming and she always knew but never let on , She would just smile . Our sincere sympathy to all of you and wishing you comfort at this time.

To the entire Reese Family,
Our deepest sympathies go out to you at this difficult time. Mary was always gentle, warm, kind, caring, and always made us all feel like part of the Reese family. For that we will always be grateful. One time we'll always remember is when the boys were playing in the school forest a few years ago and Kameron fell thru the ice and was completely soaked on a freezing cold day. Caleb rushed him over to Granny's house where she made hot cocoa for them and somehow found him warm clothes for him to wear. While they didn't exactly fit him, he was safe and warm again thanks to her. We will truly miss her. God Bless you all!
