Donna, Billy and Joey, I am so, so, so sorry to hear about Cal. He was a good man and I always enjoyed interacting with him when he dropped the boys off or picked them up at my house for day care...all those years ago. And to see him in the store or on the street he always brought joy wherever he went. He will be very much missed by all who knew him. I am sad that I won't be able to make the visitation or funeral as I will be out of town. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I hope to see you soon. My heart aches for all of the Haack family members I need you all to know that if Cal Haack wasn't working at the gas station late on a Saturday evening in 1976 I would most likely not be here today. He responded to a call he heard on the police scanner and I don't really remember much of that night. Cal arrived to the scene on the accident and without thinking of himself he risked his own life to pull me out of my car through a window. Within seconds my car started on fire, I was bleeding profusely from many areas of my body. My left arm and neck were shredded as if a grizzly bear had slashed it, I must have passed out and fell into a coma then taken to what now is Meriter Hospital. It took a few years for me to rehab my arm and I was constantly pulling glass out of my body. I was eventually shown photos of my car and was shock to see what was left of it. I shouldn't even have legs due to the fact that my cars gas and brake pedal were next to the driver seats edge. I can never say enough of Cal Haack heroics and could never find anything that I could do to pay him back other than to say thanks Cal Haack you are my true savior. I will always cherish you in the same way I have been over the years. I will regret I couldn't thank you enough and if there was a way I could have taken your place I would have gladly done so. You belong to one of Middleton's most cherished families and every time I see one of them I will think of what a self sacrificing person you were for me and I'm sure you were the same for the entire city. Now you may rest with the many of Middleton's hero's and there are a lot of them. I will shed a tear and toast a sad cheer to the man that save my life. Bless you and your loved ones forever. Sincerely grateful, Gary Mier

We wish to offer our deepest condolences to Calvin's family regarding the loss of Toni Valentine's valued family member. Barbie, Annie, Stuart, Doris, Sandy, Jamie, and Lori are all very close friends of Toni. She thought a great deal of Calvin, and she enjoyed spending time with him. Oh, how we wish we could help at this time. All life is precious, even when it comes sooner that expected.
