Simons, Vernon C.
MONONA–Vernon C. Simons, age 80, of Monona, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, at Agrace HospiceCare surrounded by his family. He was born on Nov. 24, 1933, in Arena, Wis., the son of Clarence and Lena Simons. He married Dorothy Bradley on May 24, 1958, in Madison. Vernon retired from McCormick Lumber after working there for 45 years. He was a long-time member of NARI. Vernon was a member of Monona United Methodist Church. He was an avid Packers and Badgers fan, but his greatest love was his family. Vernon is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two children, Susan (David) Ruhde and Robert (Rachel) Simons; and two grandchildren, Noah and Margreta Ruhde. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Bettie Janisse. Funeral services will be held at MONONA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 606 Nichols Rd., Monona, at 11 a.m., on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014, with the Rev. Brad Van Fossen presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. I am saddened to learn of Vern's passing. He was a wonderful and gentle man. I liked him a lot. I'm glad he was in the care of Hospice, and that he had his family with him at his end.

I have many great memories. One in particular was I was doing a training when I worked for American Family Insurance. I had to go to Madison. I was to meet with Sue but she had to cancel at the last minute. However, her parents drove all the way out to my hotel and we all went out for dinner. It was a really great night. Who would have thought a 28 year old could have such a good time with her college roommate's parents. I will miss you, Mr. Simons. Christine (Vance) Rogers
