Howard O. Nelson

NELSON, HOWARD O. LODI-Howard O. Nelson, age 97, passed away on Sunday, October 19, at the Lodi Good Samaritan Center. He was born in Lodi on February 18, 1917, son of Henry and Carine Nelson. He graduated from Lodi High School in 1934. He served in the U.S Army 3rd Division from September 1941 through July 1945, and participated in the North Africa, Sicily, and Anzio landings. He was wounded twice and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Lodi, the Maynard-Schulgen American Legion Post 216, and a former member of the Lodi Curling Club and Lodi Golf Course. He was preceded in death by his wife, Iola; sister, Irene and brothers, David, Clifford, and Henry. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 206 Pleasant St., Lodi at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 25, 2014 with Pastor Michael Lee presiding. Visitation will be held at the HAMRE GUNDERSON FUNERAL HOME, 157 S. Main St., Lodi on Friday, October 24, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and also at the church beginning one hour before the service. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial donations in Howard’s name may be made to the First Lutheran Church of Lodi, Good Samaritan Society-Lodi, or veterans organizations.
