Robert L Burmeister

VERONA-Robert L. “Bob” Burmeister, age 87, passed away on October 10, 2014 at the VA Hospital, Madison, WI. He was born December 4, 1926 to George and Ruth (Dahlk) Burmeister in Middleton, WI. He was a graduate of West High School and the University of Wisconsin Madison in Political Science. At West High School he was one of the original founders of the Forest Gillett II Trophy, a prestigious award honoring outstanding athletes, scholars and citizens. He was a member of the Army Air Corp serving in Italy, France and Germany during WWII. Bob then married Elaine Dammen on Sept 10, 1949 and they recently celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary. He was a lifelong active member at Luther Memorial Church for over 71 years. Bob was a Marketing and Sales Representative for Sinclair Refining Company, Kenneth F. Sullivan Construction Company, and retired from Newcomb Company. He was an avid sports fan of the Badgers, Packers and Brewers – attending UW football games for over thirty years. He enjoyed participating in both his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities whether it was sports, music or family gatherings. Bob also had a keen sense of politics. He is survived by his wife Elaine, sons Randy (Connie), Gregg (Kate); daughter Laurie Matthews Boeser (Duke); seven grandchildren Adam (Beth), Tyler, Trevor Burmeister, Rachel (Cole) Price, Paul (Melissa) Matthews, Jessica and Brock Boeser, six great-grandchildren Mitch & Leah Price, Nathalie, Olivia, Leo & Eli Burmeister; his brother-in-law Sherman (Joann) Dammen, nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother Gerald (Jackie), in-laws Lawrence and Alvilda Dammen, brother-in-law Myron Dammen. Funeral Services will be held at LUTHER MEMORIAL CHURCH, 1021 University Ave., Madison at 11 AM on Friday, October 17, 2014 with the Rev. Brad Pohlman and Rev. Franklin Wilson co-celebrating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Madison. Visitation will be held on Thursday Oct. 16, 2014 from 4 PM until 7 PM at the GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton and also on Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at the church.
