Obituary

BROOKLYN/OREGON-Edwin Gene Meister, age 82, of Oregon passed away on Friday, September 12 at the Oregon Manor with his family by his side. Ed was born on July 12, 1932 in Cazenovia, Wis. to Ervin W. and Dorothy (Connors) Meister. He attended Gordon Country School in Middleton and graduated from Brooklyn High school in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-56 as a stevedore on the docks in Whittier, Alaska. Ed was a quiet guy who loved the outdoors. When he reflected back on his past work career he always talked of his days farming and custom back hoeing. He always enjoyed his visits from friends and relatives. Survivors include brothers, Ervin J. (Gladys), Marvin (Donna), Dean (Gail), a sister, Romona (Ted) Feller; numerous nieces and nephews, great and great- great nieces and nephews and many relatives and friends. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, younger brother, Donald; niece, Sheri and nephew Patrick. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at Noon on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, with a luncheon to follow. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday, with a pass and review by Oregon /Brooklyn VFW Post No. 10272 at 11:45 a.m. Burial will be at Graves Cemetery with Military Honors. The family would like to thank the VA Hospital for his care and treatment over the past years, the Oregon Manor staff and residents for treating and caring for Ed as family.
