Nancy J. Smith

Smith, Nancy J. MADISON/DEFOREST-Nancy J. Smith, age 73, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, in Madison after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on April 23, 1941, in Madison, the daughter of Vernon and Ruth (Miller) Foust. Nancy was united in marriage to Norman F. Smith on Oct. 1, 1960. Together they enjoyed 46 years together. Nancy worked for the Dane County Sheriff’s Department for 10 years, then took a position with the Deforest Police Department as a dispatcher. She retired early to care for her husband. Nancy was always a kind and gentle person, who was always there to help in any way. She enjoyed skiing, biking, swimming and simply being with her family. She is survived by two sons, Norman Smith III and Van Smith; grandson, Randy (Jessica) Dahl; and a sister, Barbara (Roger) Levesque of Melbourne Beach, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Norman. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 1 p.m., on Friday, November 7, 2014.
