I worked with Dave side by side in the Public Affairs office of the 944th Fighter Wing, Air Force Reserve. for many years. We had a lot of laughs but still managed to get the job done. I truly will miss him and the many great stories he always had to tell, especially about his adventures with his dogs. Paul Zadach

Colonel Thoreson was my boss from 2005 until his retirement from the Aur Force. He was very good to me and was a big supporter of me obtaining a commission. He allowed me to run the Public Affairs Office as a young Airman and that experience contributed significantly to my ability to succeed in Officer Training School. I will miss his stories and laid back style. He always had a way about him making friends anywhere he went. I loved hearing his post-retirement stories about fishing and volunteering in his new community. It seemed he had found a new happiness and it makes me smile to think of him doing what he loved - helping others.

I had only planned to serve in the public affairs shop for three years but because of him three turned into 11 years. His priority was the welfare of the PA staff and he never hesitated to go the extra mile to help you along your career. No matter the working condition, he was always positive and made sure you were also. Just hard to grasp this terrible news. Much too young. I salute you sir....

It is with great sadness that I hear of the passing of Lt Col Thoreson on the 944th Fighter Wing Facebook page. I worked with Dave for most of my Air Force Reserve career and kept in contact after my retirement. He was always an outstanding leader, mentor and friend. My prayers to his family, RIP Sir...

11 years later I find out about Dave’s passing. He was a college roommate of mine at Whitewater. There are numerous memories of him and I getting stoned out of our minds. Too many laughs to remember. I saw him a few times after college when he was was serving in the Air Force and we managed to reconnect. I can only hope he went peacefully. He might have been one of the most OUTRAGEOUS people I ever met. I thank him for introducing me to one of his favorite campsites at Newport State Park in the Upper Peninsula of WI. It changed my life. RIP good friend. You’ll always be remembered. ❤️
