Cattell, Helen Vivian
MADISON-Our angel on earth, Helen Vivian Otillie Cattell, age 92, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014. She was born on Sept. 26, 1921, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Martin Ray and Otillie (Tillie) Negaard. On Feb. 15, 1947, Helen married the love of her life, Raymond P. Cattell, in Chicago, Ill. Helen was an avid golfer, bowler and creator of beautiful keepsakes from her love of knitting and crocheting. For many years, she was active in Monona volunteering at the Dean House and Winnequah Middle School Library. She loved playing cards with her girlfriends and beating her granddaughters at Scrabble. Helen also enjoyed spending time at the family farm in Adams County. Any chance she got, she loved spending time with her great-grandchildren. Helen touched the lives of so many with her love, humor, kindness and gentle demeanor. Helen is survived by her sons, Spencer (Candy) of Madison and Wade (Jodi) of Stoughton; daughter-in-law, Gail Cattell of Fort Atkinson; two granddaughters, Tanya Fenner (Joel) of Appleton and Melinda Cattell-Charbonneau (Chris) of Byron, Ill.; step-grandson, Jason Prestigiacomo (Jenny); eight great-grandchildren, Rae & Samantha Fenner, Isaac, Benjamin and Cooper Charbonneau and Abby, Jake and Cade Prestigiacomo; and deeply loved and special niece, Sharon (Larry) Tobin of River Grove, Ill. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Ray in 2013, and son, Martin (Skid) Cattell in 1993. Funeral services will be held at ST. STEPHEN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5700 Pheasant Hill Rd., Monona, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014, with the Rev. Nick Utphall presiding. A Private burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 2 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday. The family is eternally grateful to the staff at Monona Heritage Assisted Living and Agrace HospiceCare for the loving care they extended to our Mother over the last 18 months. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Agrace HospiceCare. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
She embraced her Norwegian Heritage and with that…..

Spence and Wade, so sorry for your lost. Your Mother was a very kind and beautiful lady. I enjoyed visiting with her and your dad every time we came back to town. They made us feel so welcome. She will be miss, but is now at peace with your dad.

Spence and Wade, so sad to hear about Mom's passing. We have many fond memories of her through out the years she came into our Salon. It was just so enjoyable whenever the door would open and I would say "Lena, my Lena" (she loved it) She would just blush and smile so sweetly and say, ohh quiet, there's other Hair Salons in Madison I could go to you know.. My entire Staff enjoyed her immensley. She aleways was a class act. May she rest in Peace, Jim&Patsy Ryan

Spence and Wade, we are so sorry to find out that your Mom had passed away. It is a great loss for all of you. I will miss her dearly, we had so many conversations on various items. She became a true friend to me, helped me when I had a question, regardless of the subject. She was always concerned about me & my family, always asked about them. I will miss my visits to the Heritage House & time spent w/Helen. She was a beautiful lady! Now she is with Ray & Marty, her Mom & sister, whom she talked alot about the last couple of months. Rest in peace, my dear Helen.

It is with my deepest sympathy that I offer my condolences to family and friends on Helen's passing. I will always remember she and Ray as one of the warmest and kindest couples that I've ever met - always a pleasure to see "Auntie Helen and Uncle Ray".
