Obituary

MADISON–Denise left here for her next adventure on Saturday the 19th of July. Denise was a true professional in a profession that doesn’t always receive the respect it deserves. She was a Homemaker in the best sense of the word. Denise raised three kids and a husband in a succession of 12 houses in 8 states. She somehow managed to turn each house into a wonderful oasis amidst the hustle and bustle of a busy world. Her simple but elegant taste, her good nature and her whimsical spirit always created an amazing refuge for her family. No matter the location, size or condition of the house Denise made it a real home. She was fond of small, often hidden touches that you would suddenly chance upon, the little porcelain owl in the corner of the windowsill or the small turtle figurine on the rock outside. You never knew what you might find but you knew it would make you smile or laugh. We always counted on coming home to a peaceful, loving, nurturing environment. Walking in the door and being greeted by that wonderful smile and cheerful voice was always the best part of the day. Success to Denise had nothing to do with material things, to her success was providing a loving home and raising her family to be kind and considerate whatever their circumstances. Denise was a very private person. She wished to be cremated and her ashes placed with our son Philip’s in a private ceremony. She specifically asked for no memorial service, instead asking that you remember her by considering these words from the Dalai Lama. “There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.” Please no flowers or other items. If you feel a need to do something consider Denise’s favorite charity, the Salvation Army or a local charity that you support. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com. We feel blessed and privileged to have had Denise in our lives. She is an unforgettable spirit who generously shared her special light with everyone who knew her. The very fitting words of the Dalai Lama are now in our house; Annie found those words on a banner in a little shop after Denise's passing and wanted to bring it home as a comforting reminder of her. We pray that you all find healing and peace. ~ Linda, Tom, Mary and Annie Nolan
