LUKAS, WILLIAM
PORTAGE-William Lukas, born August 15, 1925, died peacefully in his home on July 20, 2014. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Florence Manka; his second wife, Edith Russ; his son, Paul Lukas, and great grandson, Tyler Montag. William is survived by his daughter, Mary Darlene (Robert) Pedersen; his son, Jim Lukas; his stepson, John Venske; his stepson, Glenn (Johnella) Venske; his stepdaughter, Jody (Kenneth) Shank; his stepdaughter, Cynthia (Anthony) McQueary; 18 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at LAKE WISCONSIN EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH, N1640 Ryan Road, Lodi, at 3:00 P.M., on Thursday, July 31, 2014 with Pastor Daniel Sjogren officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2014, from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, 1S.510 Winfield Rd., Wheaton, IL 60189 at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 1, 2014.

So sorry to hear of Bill's death. He was a good brother-in-law and a good husband to my sister Edith. We enjoyed visiting with them and playing games. He was a shrewd player and loved to win. He will be missed.

I had the great privilege of being Bill and Edith's family physician for >20 years. I miss them both very much - seeing them was the highlight of my day. That's a great picture. The wry intelligent kindness just radiates. Sorry I can't attend the visitation and service on Thursday. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

We LOVE this picture of Bill--just as we will always remember him! He was our special friend whose straight-shooting honesty and integrity stole our hearts. Bill shared my love of our back yard flower mound--and that's all I can say about that! :-) He took great pride in his yard, in his flowers and indoor plants (Edith's violets in particular)--they were ALWAYS blooming. He cared for them with the skill of a master gardener. When he was still driving, he would pull his big car over in the grass while I worked on my front flower mound and we'd catch up on the latest happenings--even though his ice cream was melting in a grocery bag in the back seat. He had a little bit of devil and flirtatious nature about him and he is already missed greatly! I feel a little lonely now as I look out at his house and his tall American flag waving to him in heaven but know he is united with his beloveds. We love and miss you Mr. Bill!

This man is my dad through and through. He was the dad that was there during the best times in my life and the worst. He taught each one of us to fish. He taught all of us how to water ski, when he didn't even know how to swim ( with the exceptions of mom and Tony) He melted my heart when mom was in a nursing home. The love and care he gave to her was incredible. I miss him fiercely. I know now that his response to us when we called is finally true "I'm fine," rest in peace daddy, I Love You
