Lucas, Robert H. “Rob”
FITCHBURG-Robert H. “Rob” Lucas, of Fitchburg, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2014, the son of Henry and Patricia Lucas of Arizona. Rob married Angie Sullivan on Sept. 21, 1991, and in their wonderful years together he got his greatest joys from their mutual love of their many outdoor activities like skiing (the family’s second residence in winter time is Blackhawk Ski Club), training year round for the Birkie, canoeing and kayaking, biking, camping, hiking, roaming the natural areas across the street from their home with their dogs, and traveling to places like the Boundary Waters, Sylvania Wilderness Area, Maine, Arizona, and the Grand Tetons. Many of their wonderful trips were made with other dear friends and family. Rob loved to garden, cook creatively, and bake wonderful pies, build kayaks, and read voraciously. He had a love for many different types of music. They have been surrounded by many cherished friends who share a love for same activities. Rob had a wonderful and playful sense of humor and a gentle and generous heart. He is survived by his wife, Angie; three children, Sunny Mohan-Lucas, Caity Lucas and Mike Lucas; parents, Henry and Patricia Lucas; brother, John (Kim) Lucas; sisters, Cathy (Dave) Harms and Mary (Jason) Warner; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joan and Philip Sullivan, his In-laws Denise (Bernie), Christine, Brian (Kristina), and Brendan (Melissa). Nieces and nephews: Mat, Jason (Alicia), Lucas, Jenny, Andrea, Ryan, Lily, Mikaela, Aidan, and Trai, and many more loving family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at MEMORIAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 5705 W. Lacy Road, Fitchburg, at 3 p.m., on Monday, July 14, 2014, with the Rev. Phil Haslanger officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 2 p.m. until the time of the service on Monday with a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, a trust fund is being set up for Caity and Mike’s education. Rob was a wonderful husband, father, son, and brother and he will be greatly missed. I first met Rob when our mutual friend Rachel Potter - who taught with Rob - said, 'He's a fellow skier and a great guy'. Rob was more than a skier - he was a gonzo skier! He inspired me to work just a bit harder in the Elver series. But I'd remember the ease and fun of skiing seeing Rob and Angie and friends spring skiing at Blue Mounds - stopping to talk more than skiing! I'll miss Rob.

Rob was incredibly welcoming to our family as we joined the local xc ski community & Madnorski junior team. He had words of greeting, advice, and humor every time we showed up for practice. We saw Rob in races, sporting a tutu, and the message was clear: don't take yourself too seriously! We'll miss Rob, but will remember his kindness and sparkle. Your entire family were always such great nieghbors and always so helpful when needed. I always would see Rob out on his bike or roller skis, and it always made me feel guily for not being as active as him. Driving down Syene Rd. will never be the same without having him to wave to. I'm just around the corner. Please call for anything, even if it's just yard work help.
