Both of my kids, Kylen and Liana McClintock, were fortunate to have Mary Jo as their kindergarten teacher. She instilled a sense of caring and compassion amongst the kids, and a strong love for learning. She made every kid feel special and loved. She will be missed by many. - Kelly Kearns

We were so sad to see Mary Jo's obituary in the newspaper this morning, but glad to have the opportunity to tell you what a wonderful person we thought she was, making such a big impact on so many lives. She was our daughter Kristin's day care provider in the early 80s, and Kristin thrived in her care. Mary Jo inspired me to join the Central City Family Day Care group and start my own family day care when I had our second child Tim in 1985. Her bright spirit, her wry wit, her strength, her caring, her expertise, her dedication, and her humor will be remembered fondly and missed by many, many parents, children (of many ages by now), neighbors, and friends. Our hearts go out to your family at this time. Lynn, Dan, Kristin, and Tim Shafel

I felt very sad when my dad called to tell me of Mary Jo's passing. Mary Jo was part of a group of kids that grew up in the Orton park area of Spaight , Rutledge and Few Streets. I have not seen Mary Jo since childhood, but the memories of the 50s and 60s seem like yesterday. We played, and had great fun, it was a time of innocence . May she rest in peace. We knew Mary Jo as a friend, neighbor and teacher. She was our back yard neighbor and helped shape our kids during kindergarten. I always saw her with a smile and a laugh when we talked. She was one of those individuals who was always willing to listen and had such great enthusiasm. Our boys loved her as a teacher and will miss her very much. They will hold onto to the legacy that she brought as a teacher and advocate. Mary Jo made a difference in our lives and many others. Take the time to remember and do not forget all that she gave to this community.... Shine on in the Cosmos... We'll be remembering and raising a toast to you...Stefan, Emily, Matias and Anders.

I worked some with Mary Jo. Great teacher and parent, as I had daughter, Megan, in my 5th class at Marquette Elem. Always a super volunteer at Orton Park Fest. The world will miss her positive ways.
