Obituary
Kelly, Hugh George
MIDDLETON-Hugh George Kelly, husband, father, and all around wonderful man, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2014, after a brief illness. An only child, he was born on May 7, 1932, in Minneapolis, to Hugh and Agnes “Nessie” Kelly. While very young, his family moved to Wauwatosa. He attended Bayview High School and UW-Milwaukee where he met his future wife, Joanne Kleis. Hugh was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1953 and was stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict. He returned home in 1955 and was married to Joanne on October 15, 1955. Hugh worked for the State of Wisconsin for 31 years, retiring in 1989 as a senior administrator at DILHR. He was a skilled wood worker and craftsman, and upon retirement promptly used his talents to restore his daughter’s farm house. He always made time for his family, and fearlessly took his four small children and wife, in a station wagon without air conditioning, pulling a pop up camper in the middle of summer to the Dakotas for “vacation”. He was a scout leader, Mason and a member of the Middleton Sertoma Club. He is survived by his wife, Joanne; sons, Michael (Linden) of Minneapolis, Scott of Sun Prairie, John (Mozelle) of Milwaukee; and daughter, Carolyn (Bob Davis) of Verona. He is also survived by grandchildren, Anna Tedrow, Hugh Douglass Kelly, Robert John Davis and Jack Hugh Davis; as well as grand-nieces Breanne and Kilah. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at 10 a.m., at MIDDLETON COMMUNITY CHURCH, 645 Schewe Rd., (corner of Schewe and Old Sauk Rd.), Middleton, with a service at 11 a.m. Pastor James Iliff will be presiding. Inurnment will be at Wisconsin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the Salvation Army or to a charity of your choice. On-line condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

So very sorry to hear this news. Hugh certainly was an "all around wonderful man" as his obituary stated.
I worked for Hugh a number of years and observed his many successes. My main memory though is how proud he was of his family & their accomplishmets.

Hugh worked several years during the 1960's in Milwaukee before moving on to Madison, I believe as an assistant to the Milwaukee Manager Bill Main. The Milwaukee State Retirees meet once a month and Hugh's name often comes up as we reminisce about the "Good Old Days" We all have fond memories of Hugh and the fine work he did for the State during his time here in Milwaukee. I have tried to attach a group photo and list of names of the entire Milwaukee Job Service staff taken in July of 1964. If you do not receive the photo and would like a copy please contact me at wedwards@wi.rr.com or refer back to an earlier edition of the State Retiree News Letter put out by Mike McCoy. Bill Edwards
