Irving James Mandley

Madison-Irving James Mandley, age 100, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at his residence. He was born on March 30, 1914 in Stambaugh, Mich., the son of James and Emma (Lundin) Mandley. He was proud to be raised in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where he served as a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps during the depression. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor and served on active duty for eleven years. Irving was united in marriage to Eileen Luke on May 24, 1952 in Lebanon, Ill. After leaving active duty, Irving and Eileen made their home in Beloit, and then Madison where he was employed by the University of Wisconsin Physical Sciences Laboratory. Family and church were the most important aspects of his life. He served as a congregational leader of Calvary Gospel Church for over 50 years where he was instrumental in the design of the last three church facilities. He is survived by his wife, Eileen; his children, Kenneth (Connie) Mandley, Lt Colonel, USAF (ret), Lynn (Russell) Morey, Keith (Kris) Mandley, and Laurie (John) Grant; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Karren Phillips. Funeral services will be held at CALVARY GOSPEL CHURCH, 5301 Commercial Ave, Madison, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2014, with Pastors John Grant and Roy Grant officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Calvary Gospel Church Building Fund.
